Latest Updates from Our Project:

Good news and more good news
almost 8 years ago – Fri, Jul 01, 2016 at 07:43:51 PM

Hi All,

First of all let me apologize for not sending out an update earlier. Although there isn’t a lot to report I should at least let you know what is going on so you know you haven’t been forgotten and the project is getting closer every day.

Models

One of the main hurdles is getting the 3d models cut and cast. Cut means that they are turned into separate pieces (e.g. arms, legs, etc…). This is a lengthy process but thanks to the amazing work of Paul it has been completed way ahead of schedule and the cuts look great. Next I have had all of the 3d models sample printed to ensure that the sizing is correct and the pieces fit together…everything is looking great although the Minotaur magic user is more impressive that I could have imagined and is 12 separate pieces.

Currently the models that have passed inspection are being printed by the professional 3D printer to ensure that all of the detail is there for casting. The samples were great and the professional will be even crisper.

We are still really ahead of schedule with this, so it is a good thing.

Rules

The forums have been really quiet…so I am assuming that people are happy with the rules and don’t have a lot of questions. I have answered a few PM’s and done quite a bit of demos, so I think we are pretty much final so I am going to start layout.

Character Creation

An email was sent out to backers at the character creation level and I received a few answers back…but I will be sending individual emails soon. The goal is to have all the characters created by late-August so they can be laid out and go to the printers by mid-late October.

Next steps

Once all of the masters have been printed (early September) we will move to production phase. At that point I will send out an email letting you know that the backerkit will be closing so please (PLEASE) make sure that all of your information is in as I will be closing it to get final production numbers. The goal is to have models delivered by end of year if possible.

If you have any questions or concerns at all, please let me know. I am excited about where we are and where we are going. Feedback on the models and the game have been incredibly positive.

Thanks for being a supporter.

Best,
Adam

Q&A Time
about 8 years ago – Sun, Mar 27, 2016 at 11:17:10 PM

Hi Everyone,

I have been getting a lot of questions about the survey and a couple of other items, so I thought it may be good to do a Q&A.

Survey:

Q: I didn’t receive my survey, did you send it? Yes! I am finding that most of the backers that didn’t receive it are AOL and Hotmail users. If you didn’t get it, please visit: https://parallax-warband.backerkit.com/ and it will resend it. If you still don’t get it contact me and I can send you a direct link.

Q: I choose a 10-point Warband, but after I choose everything I wanted it still kept asking me about more models, why? In order to match all the possible ways you can build your Warband, and there are plenty, we had to ask a question per point. After question four (4) you should see a none selection, choose that once you have your desired models.

Q: What if I choose the add-on Warband? If you add-on a Warband I will email you to find out what models you would like in it, or you can send me a message.

Q: When will the add-ons end? Not sure yet. When we are ready to go into production we will lock down the BackerKit and charge your credit card. We will give you a couple of weeks notice before that happens.

Q: Can I change my pledge level? Yes! Before you sign in there is a button at the bottom that says, “Want to upgrade your pledge level?” Click that and you can change your level. If you go lower, the funds go towards add-ons.

Q: Can I change my answers? Until we lock down the survey you can change your answer as much as you want. Just log into the survey and change your answers.

Q: What if I want to discuss my Warband with other players, how do I do that? Go to the forums (http://parallaxminiatures.com/forums), it is a great place to meet and talk to players around the world.

Other:

Q: I really want to start playing, can I? Yes, yes you can! If you go to the forums (http://parallaxminiatures.com/forums) you should now see a Downloads section at the top of the screen. This will give you the latest version of the beta rules. I will be setting up a questionnaire later this week to ask you specific questions on the rules. Please use the backer only section of the forums to discuss beta testing.

Q: Devoid 1 is only offered as a 35mm model, why? As this is a hand-sculpted master, it is only available in one size. I wanted to make it available to both scales as it is a bit large for the 28mm, but will still fit into the scale…just a really large human. This is also a Kickstarter Exclusive miniature, so it will only be available until the pledge manager locks down.

Q: What is the challenge coin and do I need it? No, you don’t need it, but it is cool. After the pledge manager closes the only way to get one of these will be to beat Adam a special events while supplies last. Not to Billy: By beat I mean at a game of Parallax, not with a stick.

Q: If I backed at the designer level, what should I be doing? Preparing to design your character.

Q: Is there a place that I can read more about Parallax? Very very excited that Luke Wilson of Figure Painter Magazine (http://www.figurepaintermagazine.co.uk/) did an interview with me about Parallax! Please purchase issue #35 (1-34 are pretty awesome too), and read all about Parallax on page 56. The price of this magazine is less than half of a Starbucks Frappuccino...and has a lot less calories.

Survey (best news)

Lets start out with the best news – the surveys will be sent out shortly – likely  by the time you read this you may already have it! I apologize for the delay, but there was a lot of back and forth with BackerKit ensuring that you received the best possible survey, which accounts for all the add-ons, and your needs. If you have any questions or problems with the survey, please send me a message.

You will not need to create a BackerKit account to answer your survey. The invitation email will contain a link to your personal survey. It is important to submit your responses as quickly as you can since we need this information to process your rewards.

If you need to change your survey responses, add or remove add-ons, or update your shipping information, you can click on the link in your survey email again or request your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page.

If you prefer, you can just message me and give me your information, but answering your survey will help us get your rewards out to you quicker. BackerKit helps us save lots of time by streamlining the survey process, automating data organization, and providing us with pledge management software to make it easy to process your pledge reward shipments.

If you used Facebook to log into your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey link will be sent to the email you used for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you'd prefer to use, please message me.

Due to the number of model options you can choose from when creating your Warband, the survey is extensive. Technically, for a 10-point Warband, you could have as few as 4 models but as many as 10 so we had to ask 10 question for each 10 points (i.e. 20 questions for a 20 point or two 10-points Warbands).

After the results come in I will have to check each one by hand to ensure they equal the correct amount of points. There are no pre-made options in the survey. If you would like one of the premade Warbands, just enter in the models you’d like.

Please remember, the points of the models do not equate to their points in play.

A typical game of Parallax is about 250 points. Sample costs of the personality models are:

  • Minotaur: 60 points
  • Hadjen: 50 points
  • Cayad: 40 points
  • Sicarius: 45 points
  • Devoid: 30 points
  • Tir: 25 points

You can order your 10-points however you’d like but I thought you should know the game mechanics before you choose.

Free stuff (great news)

When I was working on the survey and what you get when we fulfill I was unhappy with a choice I made. For the two-player starter we were only providing one deck of character cards, with the idea you share or buy more if you want another set. The decision was made for a lot of good reasons, but still disappointing. To remedy that, everyone that has backed for a two-player will be getting two decks of character cards.

If you are a domestic backer, you will also no longer pay shipping if you chose the $1 option. The $5 you paid will be given to you as a credit to be applied for add-ons.

International will still need to pay for shipping to help defuse the cost of shipping. However, if you are only getting a digital add-on, the $15 will be applied as a credit. Please send me a message if you are international and only want the digital rewards as I will have to manually fix your pledge.

Schedule (good news)

We had originally said we would deliver the product in March of 2017. The reasoning behind this was a lot more play testing, getting the rules printed, models made, shipping…

I honestly don’t think this is the case anymore. Because we aren’t worrying about a printed book, for the moment, and if we can get play testing done by October. The goal is to get everything out and done much earlier. I know this goes against the normal Kickstarter rules of promise early and deliver late, but I want to get this into your hands.

Worst case scenario is you get the models early and we deliver the final version of the PDF a little later, with a solid beta version ready for you to play when you get the models.

Thank you again for being a backer.

Best,
Adam

…something new
about 8 years ago – Fri, Mar 11, 2016 at 10:56:26 PM

One of the classes in Parallax is the Infiltrator, which could also be thought of as the assassin, and there is no better race to exploit this then the Sicarius. I hope you will agree that Chris did a masterful job of showing the Sicarius popping out of the smoke ready to inflict massive damage on his unsuspecting prey.

This model will be available to choose in the survey as part of your Warband or as an additional add-on.

Surveys

We are working with BackerKit to set up the surveys correctly to ensure that you get the models that you want with the accuracy you deserve. With 45 different variations and the ability to let you choose how you want your warband this is taking a little bit of time but we will get you the survey in the coming weeks.

Forums

Please make sure that you have signed up for the forums (parallaxminiatures.com/forums). All of the users who have signed up so far should have access to the Kickstarter forum as well as Play test forum. I will be posting the beta rules next week, but if you need them sooner, please send me a message and I will send them to you.

Thank you again for being a backer and I will continue to share news as it becomes available.

Best,
Adam
